Audience Feedback

'Brilliant, It could have a real storyline to it' Ryan Boylan
'Smooth editing could do with more dramatic, practiced scenes though' Matthew Finnegan
'A real good project' David Lowes
'Its been edited really well but i dont get the storyline' Tashan Everett

Deleted Scenes

In our production we decided to film a scene in the toilet where one character confronts the other. We had to film this sequence twice due to key camera nmistakes made the first time which could not be rid of through editing. However, filming this a second time we conquered these mistakes and created an almost perfect scene with various different camera shots and smooth editing. However we saw one mistake in shooting in the toilets as you could see a small bit of the camera in the mirror. It was hardly noticable unless shown in slow motion. In the end our film was abit too long and we decided this scene was abit boring and time consuming to use so we delted it.

Evaluations Of Main Task

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The video we have made mainly represents the urban teenage social group. Mainly males as the video is predominantly male actors and the story line is based upon males and situation that they are often found in during the course of the storyline. The video goes into detail about a week in the life of a teenager in a tough urban environment and problems that arise to do with various troubles in an urban environment. Also shows the outcomes and how bad some of these situations are for your life, so we have tried to outline some of the harsh realities in urban teenage life. It responds to the repeated critical outlook the media gives out about teenagers behaving in an urban environment across Britain and our sequence, similar to Shifty, Adulthood and Kidulthood etc. shows what it is like coping in this environment. Hopefully it can provide the audience with interest to what would happen if the sequence was made evn further into a film.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The genre of our film is urban social realism similar to films such as Adulthood and Shifty, our film deals with issues in urban teenage life (just like Adulthood and Shifty). However our film is different to these films in certain ways. Our film is based upon a younger characters life which is not the case in other films of this genre. We use point of view shots similar to these films in certain such as chase scenes for the audience to feel that they are the character. Their is also various fight scenes that are in both our media product and theirs with various shots to get an idea of what it is like in an actual urban environment, which is the impression we aim to give out, similar to the other media products

What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why?

There are a number of companies that would produce and distribute our film, there are certain company’s that specialise in putting money into low budget films. Companies like Independent and Limelight who produced and distributed adulthood or also BBC Films and Metrodome Distribution who did the same for Shifty. These films are similar to our film and are of the same genre, the companies that I have listed have helped these films and have helped other films of the same genre so they may be interested in distributing and producing are film. Our Film could appeal to these companies because of its independance and the audience across Britain which can relate to the film or even realise the difficulty some people go through.

Further Evaluation

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the filming process I have now learnt how to use a camera properly in the process of filming. I now know that using a tripod is particularly essential to make sure film is captured in successful quality. Also if you want to create realistic shots you can use the camera handheld to make it out as if you are one of the characters and seeing things through their point of view and through their eyes, for example I now know to use it to create a drama in a chase scene. Using the editing software is an important process in the production of the film because it makes it more similar to modern day films, it also is essential to be smoothly edited to help erase mistakes or even notice them so that they can be filmed again. We used Final Cut Pro on the Apple Mac’s in college as our editing software and it has gave us the idea of the simplicity that can be developed within a film through using software such as we have.
Through filming we now know various filming techniques to use because of the technology we have used such as using key camera shots in filming and which would be the best camera shot to use. We also know how to make less mistakes when filming which we noticed through editing and have had to change certain things whilst filming these shots again. The software helped us create an authentic piece because through the importance of editing it helps condense time within our film to speed it up and get more action in within the 2 minutes we show. It also helps in that we use switches between shots for the audience to follow what is going on from different viewpoints on each character.

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you think you have learnt from the progression from it to the full task?

The preliminary task was like a practise for us to get used to the software in editing, camerawork, sound, mise en scene and lighting. It prepared us for what we had to do for our main task and we could gain feedback from our teachers or classmates in what they thought of our preliminary task and what could be improved for our main task itself. We then carefully filmed the main task over a number of weeks until it was almost perfect as we knew what we had to do to improve our film from the preliminary task. The preliminary task was like a rough project used to set up for the main task and give us experience of what we had to do next time. We had to analyse it completely and even though it was a 30 second piece we gained an idea of how to complete a satisfactory piece within our main task to last 2 minutes.

evaluation questions

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our audience for the product we have made would mainly consist of teenagers over 14 years of age who recognise and maybe can relate to the urban drama we have created. Our film could appeal to anyone who has had a tough urban experience or have lived in a similar urban environment around their home or at school in their lifetime, probably for someone between the age of 14 and20. It could appeal to those interested in life-like situations in a young urban British environment. Because this film is similar to Adulthood, Shifty and Kidulthood, it is more likely to appeal to audience because of the similarities it shares.

How did you attract/address your audience?

In our opening sequence we used various elements which people can relate to within drama. We have used a fight scene which breaks straight into the whole concept of what may happen on a feature length version of our sequence. We used various camera shots to make it more ‘Hollywood’ and it was just supposed to be like a normal week in a person’s life. It was highly realistic to what the characters were wearing, how they reacted as well as acted and certain scenes with what was occurring. We used various music tracks well edited in to fit in with what was going on which are relevent to the the sequence.
